“The Kiss” is the most popular work by Gustav
Klimt. It was painted around 1908. Now we can admire the painting in the museum
in Vienna, Austria. In the middle of the picture we can see a man holding a
woman that’s on her knees and kissing her cheek. The woman is wearing a yellow
dress with colorful circles that have smaller circles inside of them, she also
has pale skin, light brown hair and flowers in it. The man’s clothes have
rectangles on them, and he has green leaves in his brown hair. They are standing at the edge of a patch of flowery meadow
that ends under the woman's exposed feet. Background is
gold and flat. Art historians have
suggested that Klimt depicts the tale of Orpheus and Euridyce. More
specifically, seems to be showing the exact moment when Orpheus turns around to
caress Eurydice and loses his love forever. The emotions shown in this piece of
art are mostly love, happiness and peace. The warm colors used make the viewer
nearly feel like he is there with them. I find this painting very wholesome and
beautiful. I think it's now one of my favorite pictures.
