Rafał, 8a

The self-portrait is painted by Frida Kahlo in 1940, with oil paints on canvas. It has dimensions of 63.5 x 49.5 centimeters.

The painting Self-portrait with a necklace of thorns and a hummingbird shows the artist as if in a mirror image, staring into space, right next to the viewer or through him. Broad eyebrows, large eyes, and pursed lips that seem to be expressionless. The painter is accompanied by a monkey and a black cat. Other details of the canvas attract attention. The neck is surrounded by a vine of thorns, and a bird is suspended from a vine of thorns. Animals symbolize evil, bad luck and death. She is wearing a white blouse that can symbolize innocence. The composition of the work is closed and symmetrical. Warm colors dominate, and the tone of the work is bright and cheerful. The colors are quite intense.

I find the painting interesting and mysterious. I'd like to see it in a museum or a gallery.
